Direct message, DM, is an option in the Instagram app that allows you to send private messages to Instagram users. In this post, I’m going to explain how to send/view DM on Instagram from the computer.

1. Google Chrome extension

In the previous post, I showed you how to download Instagram photos, videos, stories, and IGTVs using a Chrome extension. We use the same extension here to send an Instagram direct message from Chrome browser.
If you don’t have the extension, add “Downloader for Instagram” extension to your browser.
Log in to your Instagram account.
On the top right corner click on the mobile icon ().
Click on the direct message icon () on the top right corner of the pop-up window.
Continue previous chats or click on the plus icon () to send a new message.
Select someone or search for a name. You can select multiple names for a chat. Uncheck or double click on selected names to remove the names from the list.
Click on “Next” to send a message (Scroll up to see the “Next” button). You can attach an image or send a link.
2. Developer tools
In this method, we don’t need any extension. It can be done with any browser (Chrome, Firefox, …).
Log in to your Instagram account.
Right-click on Instagram page. Select Inspect (Inspect Element for Firefox) to open developer panel. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+I (Command+Option+I for Mac).
On developer panel toolbar, click on the toggle device icon (). Or, press Ctrl+Shift+M (Command+Shift+M for Mac) to change the window size.
Refresh the Instagram page.
Like the first method, click on the direct message icon () on the top right corner of the page.
